Today, Ophelia Vintage is the creative endeavor of two women who have the support of many artistic, creative and business people, but it all began three years ago with one woman’s personal dilemma; the need for space and the desire to reuse all the beautiful vintage finds I had collected. I’m Kim, the older of the “two women from two generations with a love for all things vintage”. Here’s my story.
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love “vintage”. My earliest memories are cast in intrigue watching Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart in the Maltese Falcon and suspense as I rode along with Murder on The Orient Express. Not that I’m old enough to call those black and white movies block buster hits when I saw them. No, I just had an interest in classic films, bias cut silk dresses, and men in top hats and spats that could tap and sing their way into any woman’s heart.
If anything, I felt I was born too late. Dancing to a different beat I happily wore swing coats, pin up heels and carried vintage handbags. When I discovered that I could create whatever look I wanted by shopping “outside the mall”, I was hooked for life.
